Brand name Snapshot
Layla got its start in 2016 and has since progressed into one of the most popular bedding locations on the market. In addition to the all-foam Layla we’re taking a look at today, the brand name also sells a hybrid mattress, two pillows, sheets, weighted blankets, accessories, and more!

Though we will not be getting into all these items in this evaluation, we will take a little time later on to measure the all-foam Layla versus its hybrid equivalent. We’ll also compare the Initial Layla to a few of its stiffest competitors, particularly the Nectar and Casper mattresses. Softer Mattress Than Layla.

However before we enter any of that, let’s turn our attention back to the Layla!

What is the Layla Mattress Made Of?
As I discussed up top, the Layla is a flippable mattress that includes both a “Firm” and “Soft” side. No matter how you orient the bed, both sides include top and bottom layers of memory foam surrounding interior sections of poly foam. For the function of this review, I was sleeping with the “Soft” side up, though I’ll explain both setups listed below.

How exactly does a flippable mattress work? Let’s dive below the cover to find out.

Cover – The Layla cover is made from a thick polyester mix. It’s got a soft hand feel that’s comfortable and luxurious.

Comfort – With the “Soft” side turned up, the convenience layer is made up of a 3″ area of copper-infused memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, so provides the sleeper with lots of body-contouring and sinkage. And while memory foam does have a small reputation for overheating, the foam here has been instilled with cooling copper to keep the temperature levels low. This is a substantially thick layer of memory foam, so I can already tell that the “Soft” side could be great for side sleepers (more on that later!).

Transition – Up next, you’ll land on a transitional layer of poly foam. This product is much firmer than the one above it, helping to suppress the memory foam’s deep sink and transition the sleeper into the firmer base materials below. Softer Mattress Than Layla.

Support – And what exactly are we transitioning into? A 4″ layer of high-density poly foam. Super strong and stable, this material offers the mattress with most of its foundational assistance. When oriented with the “Soft” side up, this layer basically works as the base. Nevertheless, when the bed is configured to the “Firm” side, this section becomes a company transitional layer that supplies support to the lower back and hips.

Base–  Last but not least, we arrive at the second and last layer of copper-infused memory foam. This one’s just an inch tall, so you can’t really feel it when the bed is in its “Soft” orientation. If you were to turn it, however, this would become the convenience layer. It wouldn’t provide almost as much pressure relief as the 3″ area of copper-infused memory foam we have actually currently seen, but might give back and combination sleepers a subtle hug at the lumbar region.

How Does the Layla Mattress Feel?
Now that we’ve got a solid sense of what’s going on inside the Layla mattress, let’s get into how it feels, starting with firmness. Softer Mattress Than Layla.

As with any feel factor, firmness is subjective, and can alter a lot depending upon one’s body size, shape, and weight. My read of this bed’s firmness might differ from your own. For reference, I’m about 5′ 10″, 190 lbs. and choose to sleep on my stomach.

Given that the Layla is flippable, I decided to give it two firmness ratings. On the “Soft” side, this bed gets a 5.5/ 10 from me. On the “Company” side, I arrived on a 7.5/ 10. To provide these scores some context, the market requirement for medium firmness is 6.5, so it’s safe to state that these rankings are a bit severe.

” Soft” side: As soon as I hopped onto the Layla in its soft setup, I could feel my body sinking into the plush top layer of copper-infused memory foam. The material contoured around my shoulders, hips, and lower back, supplying me with that classic memory foam “hug.” I think this feel would most likely work best for side sleepers or those in need of deep pressure relief at the joints.

” Company” side: On the “Firm” side, it was rather another story altogether. By switching out a 3″ top layer of memory foam for a 1″ layer, the bed all of a sudden ends up being super supportive. There’s hardly any contouring at all, which develops a solidly “on the top” of the bed type ambiance. I believe this feel might work best for back sleepers in need of firm support at the hips and lumbar region.

Checking the Layla Mattress
Firmness is necessary, however it’s simply one piece of the feel puzzle. To get back at more particular about this bed’s total ambiance, I’m now going to check it for 2 other aspects: Pressure Relief and Motion Transfer.

Pressure Relief
Pressure relief describes a bed’s capability to minimize tension at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. This measure will be important for all sleepers, however especially so for those who fight with joint discomfort. To help you picture how exactly the Layla eases pressure, I’ll be testing it out with a pressure map.

Basically, it works like this: I present the gadget, hop aboard, and let the map do the rest. As I roll around, the map records how much force I’m exerting on the mattress, producing a colored “map” of the pressure. For recommendation, blue shows areas of low pressure and red shows locations of high pressure. Softer Mattress Than Layla.

Back
As I pointed out above, the “Company” side was the most comfy for back sleeping, in my viewpoint. It set my spine in a good, neutral line by keeping my hips lifted in alignment with my shoulders. On the “Soft” side, I discovered that my hips sank a little too far into the structure for the position to be comfy.

Side
When I turned onto my side, I felt a ton of great pressure relief on the “Soft” side of the bed. The thick leading layer of memory foam nestled my shoulders and supplied me with an ultra-cozy deep sink. As to be expected, the “Company” setup didn’t provide me with nearly as much pressure relief, so may not be the very best orientation for stringent side sleepers.

Stomach
Despite whether I had the Layla set up to the “Soft” or “Firm” side, I would not state this bed is a hit for stomach sleeping. Strict stomach sleepers tend to choose solidly firm bed mattress that lift the sleeper totally on top of the bed, which the Layla is not. Softer Mattress Than Layla.

Motion Transfer

Let’s wrap up this area with a look at motion transfer, which describes the quantity of motion detectable from one side of the bed to the other. All sleepers will want to take notice of this feel factor, though it will most likely be most pertinent for those who share their bed with a partner.

To highlight this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, Eight inches and 12 inches and measured the disruption it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

These are great movement transfer results, which informs me that you shouldn’t be too troubled by your bed mate’s motions in the night. The star here is the thick top layer of memory foam, which works to soak up movement and move it evenly across the surface of the bed.

Should You Buy the Layla Mattress?
The Layla is a memory foam mattress in a box that let’s you select whether you desire firm support or softer convenience. Side sleepers will most likely prefer the soft side, while back sleepers can pick whichever fits their choice. Softer Mattress Than Layla.

Layla Pros:
If you’re a fan of memory foam, you’ll likely be a fan of the Layla mattress. This bed features a great deal of the material, so exemplifies its characteristic sinkage and contouring hug.
As far as sides are worried, I believe side sleepers will prefer the “Soft” orientation and back sleepers will probably be better off on the “Firm” side.
I ‘d also say that this bed has really low motion transfer, which marks it as a strong option for couples. Softer Mattress Than Layla.

Layla Cons:
If you’re searching for a bouncy bed, the Layla will likely not fit the bill. There’s not a great deal of bounce here, which results in more of a “stuck-in-the-bed” type vibe.
I ‘d also state that the mattress isn’t supportive adequate to bolster heavier folks as they sink into the bed. These sleepers will want something with a bit more raise to guarantee that they’re placed on top of the structure.

Summary:
Layla includes an all-foam, flippable design with different firmness levels on each side. This permits sleepers to experience a different feel simply by turning the mattress over. Layla’s convenience layers incorporate memory foam for considerable pressure relief, and in our screening we likewise discovered the mattress to sleep extremely cool. Softer Mattress Than Layla.
